Worship and Music
Worship/Music At Lakeside

Worship at Lakeside

Worship is the central act of the people of God. And so it is at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, where the written word of God and the preached word of God are central to worship services. The reading of scripture and the presentation of the spoken word are poignantly complemented by prayers and sacred music, which are integral to the communal praise of Jesus Christ.

Lakeside services are at 8:45 am and 11:00 am each Sunday from September through May and for the summertime we have one service at 10:00 am.  Sunday school follows the same pattern (roughly syncronized to the school year) with classes meeting at 10:00 between the two services during the September through May period, and stopping over the summer season.

Music at Lakeside

The music program at Lakeside has a long tradition of excellence and contribution to the worship experience.   Our service music is inspirational and full with added professional instrumentalists during the Easter and Christmas seasons of the year.  The Lakeside Sanctuary Choir traditionally performs cantatas during Advent and Lent and offers occasional recitals and concerts in our spacious and beautiful Sanctuary.

Rev. Ryan J. Baer, Pastor

It has been my honor and privilege to be Lakeside's pastor since June 2008. It is such a joy to be a leader in this family of faith!

Perhaps you might like to know a little bit about me. I was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, but I spent most of my growing up years in the Dallas suburb of Plano, Texas. I played Texas high school football, and was fortunate enough to be part of a team that won the Class 5A state championship in 1994.

Pastor Ryan and Amy Baer

I did my undergraduate work at the University of Missouri, where I earned dual bachelors degrees in Journalism and Business.  I also met my wife Amy at Mizzou; she is a native of Kansas City, Missouri.

After college, I returned to Dallas and spent almost four years in a corporate public relations agency.  I was making good money, I had a beautiful office in a downtown skyscraper, and I was moving up the corporate ladder.  However, there was absolutely no joy whatsoever in my work, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that God had something else in mind for me.

Amy and I were attending a Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving, Texas, and I admired so much the joy and love the pastors seemed to have for leading God’s people in worship.

Amy and I were seriously considering buying a house in Dallas, when one day I turned to her with fear and trepidation and said, “What do you think about going to seminary instead of buying a house?”  To my astonishment, she said, “I’ve been waiting for you to figure this out!”

The next several months were a whirlwind of meetings with our pastor, seminary visits, and much prayer and planning.  In July 2004, we packed up our belongings in a U-Haul truck and moved to Decatur, Georgia, where I enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary.

However, God was not finished with us, as the Spirit began working on Amy shortly after we arrived in Georgia.  She answered God’s call on her life and enrolled as a full-time student the following February!

For three years during seminary, I served the Conyers Presbyterian Church in Conyers, Georgia, as a pastoral intern.  I served under a wonderful pastor who has more than 25 years of experience in parish ministry, and I owe much of who I am as a pastor to him.

I graduated from Columbia in May 2007, and Amy graduated in May 2008.  Before we came to West Palm Beach for our first visit to the church in March 2008, neither of us had ever been south of Orlando!  However, both of us fell in love with the congregation, and we knew that we had found the place that God was calling us.
My wife, the Reverend Amy Baer, is a chaplain for Vitas Innovative Hospice Care; her ordination took place here at Lakeside on November 1, All Saints' Day 2009.

We live in Atlantis with our Shih-Tzu named Snickers.  We are so grateful for God’s blessings on us, for Lakeside Presbyterian Church, and for you!

May God bless you and keep you,

Ryan
