The Trinity is by nature, “sending.” The father sends the Son into the world to save it (John 1:14; 3:16), and the Father and the Son send the Spirit into the world (John 14:19-26; 16:13-15). And now, the Spirit is sending the Church. In short, God does not merely send the church into mission, God already is in mission, and the church must join him. This means, then, the church doesn’t merely have a mission department; it should wholly exist to be a mission.
Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10.2) This harvest encompasses many sectors of society. Our hope is to partner with God to facilitate people with a vision for local, short and long-term mercy and justice ministry as we show the world Christ through praying, serving, sending, and going.
Since God sees the world as important so do we, at Lakeside we try to have a balance between local, national and international missions. To do this we have partnered with a number of ministries that reflect our values. We pray that God would tug on your heart to serve in one of these areas.
When God said, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Lev. 19:18), He was commanding us to not defraud, pervert justice, show partiality to the poor, favoritism to the great, or do anything to endanger our neighbor's life (vv. 13-17). According to Jesus, God is a God of justice, and anyone who has a relationship with him will be concerned about justice as well (Luke 18:1-8).
